The Physician Assistant Studies Class of 2020 will learn the finer points of preparing for a job search during a virtual career information session planned for next month.

The Zoom session, scheduled for Oct. 6 at 6 p.m., is open to students graduating from the Physician Assistant Studies program in December, said Class President Caitlin Schwein. The event’s featured speaker will be John Kodosky, DHSc, MPAS, PA-C, a clinical instructor in the Department of Orthopaedics at UT Health San Antonio’s Long School of Medicine.

“Dr. Kodosky will be presenting some career tips, interviewing tips, resume, and CV-building techniques—just preparing my class for the upcoming graduation at this new stage of applying for jobs post-graduation,” Schwein said.

Learning about CV and resume best practices will benefit students long after they have landed their first job, she said. The session will also touch on the administrative side of the profession, including malpractice insurance.

Students want to know how to capture the interest of employers who might be inclined to seek out more experienced job candidates, Schwein said.

“I think something we are looking for is advice for how to make yourself marketable as a newly graduated PA,” Schwein said. “Oftentimes jobs are wanting significant experience, but we know our program prepared us well, and we are desirable applicants and candidates.”

Members of the Class of 2020 will be receiving a link to join the session, Schwein said.
