Message from the Chair

Dear colleagues, alumni, and friends,

I am very pleased to send you the latest issue of our department newsletter as we bring 2019 to a close. This first half of this academic year has already been a very productive one for our faculty and students. A small sample of our activities this year include:

• Our faculty attained national leadership service roles while maintaining their ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship.
• We marked one year of being in our newly renovated space which enhanced the infrastructure of our teaching space and enabled us to add new, state of the art equipment to our labs.
• Our students are engaged in many classrooms and community-based learning activities to support the development of their clinical problem-solving skills such as using 3-D printing to develop adaptive equipment for clients, participating with faculty in implementation research of evidence-based interventions for people with dementia; engaging in many interprofessional learning experiences including international travel opportunities, and being leaders in interprofessional teams who provide health services for people in underserved communities and the Texas-Mexico border.

Finally, December 2019 will mark the last graduation ceremony for our MOT program after a wonderful 20-year history. In 2020, we are looking forward to continuing to advance our research and scholarship initiatives, welcoming our third cohort of OTD students, and continuing to support the mission of our university to improve the lives of those we serve.

Warmest wishes,

Bridgett Piernik-Yoder
