The second edition of “Respiratory Care: Patient Assessment and Care Plan Development” provides updated information for students and clinicians who care for patients with cardiopulmonary disease. Dr. Shelledy coauthored the textbook with Jay I. Peters, MD, FCCP, professor and chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine.

The textbook’s contributing authors include a number of faculty of the School of Health Professions, including:

Division of Respiratory Care:

  • Professor Ruben Restrepo, MD, RRT, FAARC, FCCP
  • Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education Kristina Ramirez, MPH, RRT, CHES
  • Assistant Professor Megan Carreon, MA, RRT

Department of Physician Assistant Studies:

  • Assistant Professor Meredith Quinene, DHSc, MPAS, PA-C

In addition, the book features a number of faculty contributors from the UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine, including faculty from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Neurology, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Division of Neonatology.

“The contribution to this edition by so many faculty at UT Health San Antonio is a testament to the caliber of expertise at this institution,” Dr. Shelledy said.

Dr. Shelledy and Dr. Peters previously coauthored the textbook “Mechanical Ventilation,” which published in 2020. Portions of that book have been distributed free of cost by the publisher to health care workers caring for COVID-19 patients who require ventilator support.
