2023 Presidential Awards recipients recognized at ceremony

The Presidential Awards ceremony, held April 17 at the Betty Kelso Center at the San Antonio Botanical Garden, recognized 15 individuals with awards given in the areas of distinguished research scholar, clinical excellence, teaching excellence (emerging and sustained) and employee excellence. An award for team excellence was also given in recognition of exemplary contributions and outstanding collaboration.

Established in 1985, the Presidential Awards recognize exemplary performance by individuals who consistently excel in their positions and demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and core values of UT Health San Antonio. The annual awards provide the university the opportunity to recognize outstanding faculty, staff and team contributions.

“As you have witnessed here this evening, these award recipients represent exceptional achievement in their fields,” said President William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, during the ceremony. “Through their creativity, perseverance and leadership, they elevate our university as a stimulating environment for the education of the next generation of health professionals and scientists, an exciting home of research and discovery — and, most importantly, a beacon of hope for patients and their families. We congratulate our awardees and thank them for their inspiring commitment to make lives better.”

The award recipients received a plaque, a monetary gift and a congratulatory Senate Proclamation from the State of Texas by Senator José Menéndez.
