Alexandria, VA – The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) announced Georgios Kotsakis, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, TX as the 2022 recipient of the AADOCR Procter & Gamble William B. Clark Fellowship. Kotsakis was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the hybrid 51st Annual Meeting of the AADOCR, held in conjunction with the 46th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), on March 23, 2022.
Kotsakis received his D.D.S. from the University of Athens, Greece and practiced in Athens, Greece for several years before coming to the United States. He completed his residency in periodontics and obtained an M.S. from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, where he was involved in peri-implantitis research. Following his training, he became an assistant professor in the department of periodontics at the University of Washington, Seattle. In 2018, he moved to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he is currently an Associate Professor of periodontics and directs the Clinical & Translational Periodontal Research Lab.
Kotsakis is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and an affiliate faculty member at the University of Washington and the University of Minnesota. Kotsakis has published more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles and textbook chapters with more than 5,000 citations of his work. He is one of the few dental researchers to have been published in the prestigious Lancet.
Kotsakis is currently President-Elect of the IADR Implantology Group and President-Elect of the
AADOCR San Antonio Section, as well as a member of the JDR Clinical & Translational Research Scientific Advisory Committee. He has been an active member of IADR and AADOCR since 2014.
The AADOCR William B. Clark Fellowship was established in memory of William B. Clark and is supported by P&G Professional Oral Health, Crest + Oral-B. The award recognizes investigators carrying out clinical research in periodontology. The Fellowship consists of a monetary award of $5,000 to assist with travel and other support related to training during the fellowship period.
