UT Dentistry went PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

UT Dentistry honored breast cancer survivors and remembered those lost to the disease during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink and creating a Tribute Tree bearing messages of hope and remembrance. The initiative highlighted the importance of education and early detection and raised funds for breast cancer research and treatment.

Volunteers transform lives through Communities Under the Bridge program
 

Volunteers from the School of Dentistry, along with the Christian Medical and Dental Association, provide services through the Communities Under the Bridge program caring for San Antonio's most vulnerable residents.

To ensure that dental students and speech-language pathology students can appropriately screen and refer patients with signs and symptoms of dysphagia, the School of Dentistry and the School of Health Professions created an interprofessional dysphagia-oral health screening activity.

Carlos shared his story of being a first-generation graduate and why he credits his family and Mexican-American heritage for teaching him resilience, the importance of community and a deep sense of responsibility.


Kenneth M. Hargreaves honored with the 2025 Edgar D. Coolidge Award
 

Kenneth M. Hargreaves, DDS, PhD, professor of endodontics and director of the Center for Pain Therapeutics and Addiction Research at UT Health San Antonio, recieved the 2025 Edgar D. Coolidge Award, the American Association of Endodontics' highest honor.

First NIH grant awarded under the Center for Pain Therapeutics and Addiction Research
 

“It is often very difficult to treat pain from oral cancer with available medications due to limited effectiveness or rapid development of tolerance,” said Shivani Ruparel, PhD, professor and research director of Endodontics at the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, and the grant’s recipient and principal investigator which will address pain in patients with head and neck carcinoma.
