Employee flu shots available at Wellness 360 and primary care locations

The arrival of fall marks the beginning of flu season. With COVID-19 still present in the community, it is especially important to get a flu vaccination this year. UT Health San Antonio offers employees multiple ways to receive their flu shot.

The influenza virus and COVID-19 share many of the same symptoms, including fever, cough and shortness of breath. While most can recover from the flu on their own, it can lead to hospitalizations and deaths, particularly among older adults, very young children, pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems or certain chronic conditions.

Last flu season, only 47.9% of the Texas population received a flu shot, and Bexar County saw about 400 flu-related deaths, according to the Bexar County Influenza Surveillance Report. With 1,016 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic hit the community, preventative measures against the flu are strongly recommended to minimize the spread of illness this fall and winter.

Flu vaccines, including high-dose vaccines for vulnerable populations, are available at every UT Health Physicians primary care location in San Antonio and the Hill Country. Schedule an appointment with your primary care physician here.

In addition, Wellness 360 will offer flu shot clinics across campus beginning Sept. 22, continuing through October. Due to COVID-19 precautions, walk-ins will not be accepted at the remote locations. Appointment information, including scheduling and a checklist of what to bring, can be found here.

All flu shot appointments require wearing a mask and following COVID-19 safety precautions.
