NCATS Award Will Support Multi-Site Study to Evaluate Remote Trials

University at Buffalo CTSI

A CTSA Collaborative and Innovative Acceleration (CCIA) Award was recently granted to a new project with the University at Buffalo CTSI, the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and CTSA hubs in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Alabama. The two-year, $2.1 million grant from NCATS will help researchers evaluate the impact of remote versus in-person approaches to clinical trials.

The UAB startup TIXiMED Inc., was given clearance from the FDA to investigate a new drug, TIX100, a novel oral type 1 diabetes drug. The development of this drug is based on decades of work by researchers at UAB and promises to ease the burden of multiple daily insulin injections.

Cardiology Collaboration Advances Machine Learning Predictions

Penn State CTSI

Researchers at Penn State are putting machine learning to use by pairing the tool with existing electrocardiogram data to help doctors make more accurate predictions. With support from the Seed Grant Program, a multidisciplinary team is collaborating to develop novel algorithms to predict cardiovascular outcomes at significantly less cost, making healthcare more efficient and effective.
