The Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Award Program (Winn Awards) was created to increase diversity in clinical trials and transform the clinical research landscape. The initiative is comprised of the Robert A. Winn Career Development Award (Winn CDA) for early-stage investigator physicians and the Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP) for medical students.

Winn Awards Applications for 2023-2024:

  • The application for Cohort 3 of the Robert A. Winn Career Development Award (Winn CDA) for early-stage investigator physicians will be open from January 2, 2024 through May 13, 2024.
  • The application for Cohort 2 of the Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP) for medical students will be open from November 6,  2023 through January 8, 2024. 

Account Instructions:

  1. If you have an existing SurveyMonkey Apply account, please click the "Log In" button in the top right panel of your window and use your credentials to log into the application portal. If you are a student or faculty/staff at VCU, you may use your university credentials by selecting Virginia Commonwealth University at Log In. 
  2. If you do not have an existing account, please click the green "Register" button in your top right panel to create an account. 
    1. Follow the s to complete your account setup and create a password.
    2. Once your account is created, you will receive an automated email from noreply@mail.smapply.net to confirm your registration. 
      • Make sure to check your spam box just in case! Please add us to your safe sender list so that you can continue to receive messages from us. 
    3. Once you have completed your registration, log back into your account.
  3. Once you are logged in to your account, you will be asked to complete our Eligibility Form. Please note that this form is NOT an application. You must first complete this form to establish eligibility. 
  4. If you are eligible to apply, you may proceed to one of the following Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Award Program (Winn Awards) applications:
    • Robert A. Winn Career Development Award (Winn CDA) for early-stage investigator physicians
    • Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP) for medical students
  5. The program applications can be viewed when clicking "Programs" in the upper right heading. If the program is accepting applications, you will be able to start your application. 
    • Please note applications can be saved and completed at a later date. Only applications submitted by the deadline will be accepted. 
    • If no programs are listed, you may not be eligible. Please inquire for support if needed.
