Groundbreaking NIH-funded national study aims to treat COVID-related AKI

 

Kumar Sharma, MD, FAHA, FASN, professor of medicine at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (also known as UT Health San Antonio) is leading researchers from the University of Washington and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York in a National Institutes of Health-funded $1M pilot clinical study. “Our goal is to reduce the severity of acute kidney disease in patients with COVID-19 and potentially other types of acute kidney disease,” Dr. Sharma said.
