School of Nursing names new vice dean for faculty excellence

Jacqueline M. McGrath, Ph.D., RN, FNAP, FAAN, has been appointed vice dean for faculty excellence, a new position in the School of Nursing, Dean Eileen T. Breslin, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, has announced.

Dr. McGrath, as professor and the holder of the Thelma and Joe Crow Endowed Professorship, will guide faculty recruitment and faculty development within the School of Nursing.

“Her depth and breadth of the complexities of the faculty role will be an asset to the Office for Faculty Excellence,” Dr. Breslin said. “She brings a wealth of documented experience in mentoring faculty and students for success in the academy.”

Dr. McGrath comes to the School of Nursing from the University of Connecticut where she served as a director of the Ph.D. program in the School of Nursing and director of the Center for Nursing Scholarship.

She has an extensive undergraduate and graduate teaching portfolio. Her research focuses on care of the neonatal patients, and she has an extensive history of funded research collaborations.

Dr. McGrath received her bachelor’s degree in 1984 from the University of Akron, College of Nursing; her Master of Science in Nursing in 1998 from Kent State University, School of Nursing, Special Education; and her Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing.

She was appointed as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in 2007 and a Fellow in the National Academies of Practices (FNAP) in 2005. Dr. McGrath is also the co-editor of Advances in Neonatal Care, the journal of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.
